Brain in a Bag

For each Brain you will Need.

1 gallon Ziplock baggie
2 cups sand
2 cups instant potato flakes
1½ - 1¾ cups hot water

Directions

  • Mix the dry ingredients together until they are well blended.

  • Make a well (indentation) in the center of the sand-potato mixture.

  • Add 1½ cups of water.

  • Seal the bag and mix the sand-potato mixture and water with a kneading motion.

  • The mixture should be the consistency of damp sand. When it has reached the proper consistency, it will hold together and you will be able to form it into a ball.

  • If the mixture is too dry, add more hot water, a little bit at a time. Mix well after each water addition.

  • When the mixture holds together, open the baggie and remove all the air. Be careful, it is kind of stinky!

  • Reseal the bag.

  • Turn the bag over. The sealed edge will become the bottom of the brain.

  • Now shape the mixture so that it looks like a brain.

  • The Ziplock bag becomes the cerebral cortex.

  • When finished, the brain in a bag will be about the size of an adult brain and will be about the same weight as an adult brain.
