Group Grumble
Group Grumble
Purpose
To become comfortable with the other members within the group.
To form a sense of group identity and belonging.
To learn it is ok to grumble or express dissatisfaction or frustration.
To reenergize the group when energy levels are low.
To have fun.
Time
5 - 10 minutes initially to form groups and create a group grumble
After that, just long enough to let out that grumble!
Groupings
3 to 5 students - table groups or cooperative learning groups are ready-made grumble groups.
Goal
To create a group grumble to be used whenever the group has something to complain or gripe about.
Directions
Have the group get together and create a focused group grumble.
It can be something as simple as "grumble, grumble, grumble" or something more complex.
Be sure to set the ground rules before you start. Make sure students understand what is appropriate in terms of "grumbling" language and body gestures.
The grumble should end up grumbly and silly.
Variations
Have everyone in the group stand in a circle.
Now have all group members quietly repeat the word "grumble" thus creating the background sound as individual members of the group share something that really frustrates them or that they really dislike.
When group members agree, they can show their agreement by increasing the volume of their "grumble."
Repeat the activity until everyone who wants to grumble has had a turn.
